Nightmare in Noma

From soul-stirring tarot readings to our seasonal array of elixirs, The Morrow Hotel is summoning all the fall vibes this month.

Whether you’re craving a cozy autumn ritual, a family-friendly adventure, or late-night thrills that feel distinctly DC, there’s something for everyone in and around the NoMa neighborhood this spooky season.

Uncover Your Future: A Complimentary Tarot Reading at The Morrow

Those of us with deep intuition can feel the power of the energy shifting as the leaves turn and the nights grow longer. In tarot, autumn is the season of harvest, abundance, and inward reflection, reaping the efforts of what you’ve sown earlier in the year and settling into nature’s rhythms. Uncover the potential of this new season with Harvest of Possibilities, The Morrow’s complimentary tarot session with professional reader Kiara Hubbard.

Settle into the cozy, welcoming environment Kiara creates as she guides you through your fall reading. Come with an open mind and heart to benefit from a spiritual exploration of endings and new beginnings, returning to your roots and setting intentions for your next chapter.

Halloween Celebrations at the Zoo

Annual Halloween events at the National Zoo appeal to little goblins and adult ghouls alike.

Perfect for families visiting DC in October, Boo at the Zoo invites kids to dress up in costume and explore the zoo after hours, trick-or-treating among the wild animals. The trails are decorated with cute and spooky Halloween scenes and photo ops.

Boo at the Zoo is a cherished DC tradition. Some of us locals’ favorite childhood memories are of going to Boo in the Zoo as kids, and it’s a fun way for visitors to see a Smithsonian institution and have a classic Washingtonian experience.

Highlights include:

  • 30 trick-or-treat stations around the zoo grounds
  • Trails decorated for spooky vibes with plenty of Halloween photo ops
  • Costumed characters, including a magician, wandering around to delight your little one
  • Animal encounters featuring jack-o’-lanterns enrichment

It gets busier after dark, so head over early to catch the sunset glow over the animal enclosures.

Date: October 17–19, 6–9 PM

Location: Smithsonian National Zoo

The zoo also puts on a scarier, adults-only experience called Night of the Living Zoo. Returning for two wild evenings this year, the party is set to include:

  • Eerie potions from an open bar
  • Halloween tunes spun by a DJ
  • Nightmarishly good eats from food trucks
  • Halloween-themed photo booths
  • “Zoostrology” readings, an interesting new addition this year

Photos from the event always turn out incredible, and it’s all for a good cause, too; Night of the Living proceeds go toward protecting the zoo’s endangered species.

Date: October 24–25, 6–11 PM

Location: Smithsonian National Zoo
